My iphoto program opens immediately upon inserting the Sandisk memory card from my Nikon D100 camera. It appears that the program is loading photos, but in actuality no loading is occuring, and it will run likes this continuously. This all began when I removed the card from the reader before ejecting the reader device from the computer. I then received the notice of my error.
How do I restore the iphoto program function so that it actually grabs the photos upon card insertion as before?
Thanks, Mike

I don't know what version of iPhoto you're using or what OS version you're using, but for the most recent iPhoto, no photos get imported until you click the "import" button.

HTH and please let us know what happens. Have a safe and happy Holiday.

Thanks. The iPhoto version came installed with my iBook G4, which I purchased 1 year ago, and has OSX 10.3.5.
When I began using the Sandisk card reader, the existing Mac software and iPhoto worked as soon as the card was plugged into the reader. I didn't have to push the start button on the reader. That's what lead to this problem. I removed the card from the reader, which ended up being the same as unplugging the reader before ejecting it. Does this give any more insight? I don't have the iPhoto version in mind, but can get info this as well if necessary. Thanks.

I guess your card reader is different from mine. In any case, you might try to use the Image Capture app in your application folder and in preferences, specify you want iPhoto to launch when your Macintosh detects your reader with a card in it. Even then, though, I still think you have to push the "import" button in iPhoto to actually import the pictures into iPhoto.

One other (hopefully) precautionary note: iPhoto is plagued with bugs, especially as your library gets bigger. Also, although you can find the original images in the iPhoto library, it's really a challenge. I always copy the images from my card into a separate folder on my hard drive and label it so that I have some idea of what the pictures are about, the date they were taken, etc. That way, if iPhoto self-destructs, and you have erased your card since your last use, you still have your original pictures on your drive (or copied to CD or DVD).

Okay, since I last wrote about this "not actually loading photos" problem, I continue to have compounding issues. I attempted to load the iLife'06 package and thus upgrade my iPhoto. Afetr the first try I wasn't convinced that it had successfully loaded, which upon examining my applications folder found no indication. On the second attempt, the load was almost complete and I received an error message that it had not completed and to try again. I tried clicking on the dock iPhoto icon and received the prompt that to view these photos, I needed to activate all 3 settings to "read and write" in the prescribed folder,
(I don't recall which folder at this time.) This was followed by a notice that this setting could not be changed once set. My thought went to the command about needing this setting to view these photos, so I confirmed the settings. Now when I open Photoshop, the look is different, and most of my file folders available in the original iPhoto are completely gone. The folders that do appear, only have a white thumbnail where the photo thumbnail should be. The number of blanks corresponds to the number of photos in the original iPhoto version. Now when I boot up, I get the blue screen, and I have gotten the spinning beach ball of death.
Question: (1)Can I retrieve my original photo folders, if so how and where? (2)Can I uninstall the iLife package, if so where and how? (3)How can I resolve this dilemna and get on with photography, given the above mentioned new and old software? (Note: I downloaded version OS X 10.3.9 to accommodate the requirements of the iLife package.)

Thanks for any and all help. Mike
