I am currently running OS 10.3.9 and am encountering problems with iPhoto 2.0.1 where it will not even launch but the "application unexpectedly quit" error window pops up. Is there an update I need? I've been out of touch for the past 2 months travelling and haven't maintained updates as I should have. But I can't seem to find an update for iPhoto 2.0.1, only for later versions such as 4 or 5. Or, more than likely, my application is just messed up and I have no idea how to restore it. Please help!

Iphoto 2 is from June 2003, over two years ago. I can't find info on even the 2.0.1 update, however you can download the Iphoto 2.0 app here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120188

First I'd suggest temporarily not using your default iPhoto Library to see if that's the cause. TEmporarily rename your iPhoto library using these steps:

1. Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
2. Choose Go > Home.
3. Open the Pictures folder.
4. Rename the iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder to "Old iPhoto LIbrary." DON'T trash the folder, just rename it.
5. Open iPhoto. An alert appears that indicates that your Photo Library was not found. The available choices will be Quit, Create Library, and Find Library.
6. Click Create Library. This will create a new iPhoto library.

If iPhoto seems to be working OK now, then there might be a problem with corruption of our old library, which will take more involved troubleshooting. If the application STILL won't open, then rename your iPhoto library back to the original name and try to reinstall the application.

You really might consider moving up to a more recent version, iPhoto 4 and 5 are worth the $50 on their own, IMHO.

Hope this helps.

DarrylZ,

Thank you so much! Your suggestion of renaming and creating an iPhoto library worked!

Question: Is it ok to trash my old library? I already burned all the picture files to a disk and really see no reason to keep it. Unless, of course, it contains something that allows the program to run, of which I have no idea.

Anyway, thanks a bunch!

Glad I could be of help

Your iPhoto library is basically a bunch of folders which contain all your photos iby year, month and day. It also includes the data that iPhoto used, such as any keywords you made or changes to the photos (cropping, contrast, red-eye done in the program) as well as the original photos.

If you made a backup of all the photos, then you can delete your old iPhoto library without worry.
