this morning my ipod was acting odd. i selected a song from the menu and pressed play. then, it didn't play the song but allways went to the next song, so it was only scanning through songs. i then left it to rest for about 6 hours without looking at it. Now i attached it to my computer but there is an icon of a folder with a triangle and an exclamation mark next to it. the ipod is frozen. i tried restarting it and everything but nothing worked. what should i do?

Hi, Thanks for using macosx.com for your tech support needs. I am Eric and I will be assisting you today.

I think I would try the following in order trying it out after each one.

1. Reset (I think that is what you have tried doing -- basically, make sure it is charged, toggle the hold switch and Play/Pause and Menu button until you see the Apple logo)

2. Retry the iPid using a different port on the computer (probably NOT going to make a difference in this case)

3. Restart the computer and make sure you have all the latest updates (again, probably NOT the issue here)

4. Reinstall your iPod software

5. Restore your iPod (note that this should be a last resort because it will erase everything on the iPod so you need to first make sure you back up anything on it that you want to save!)

If you need more information about any of the above steps please reply and I will assist further. If you do so please indicate your model of iPod so I can be more specific on how to do each step.

Thanks and good luck

Hi.

Ok, after all the reset/restore Eric explained you, one last attempt.

(1) try to put the iPod in DiskMode
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651-en
(2) connect it to the Mac
(3) and restore it
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983-en

If you can proceed up to (3), you're saved.
Otherwise, the iPod is dead, especially when I read "it didn't play the song but allways went to the next song"

Good luck
Philippe

Yes, I think so.
Sorry.
Repairing it in Genius Bar will cost more than bying a new Nano or a classic one on second hand market.
The ideal thing is to find a geek who will open it to see.
