Hi,
My daughter was given a refurbished ipod nano for her 21st birthday. As far as I can tell it is a 3rd generation, 4GB. She has an iBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.3.9. It has a 933MHz PowerPC G4 processor. 640 MB DDR SDRAM. She has 16.4 GB of storage left. The itunes is version 7.6.2 .The ipod says it can't run without Tiger 10.4 which I have on disk. I tried loading it and all it says is it can't load on this computer. Is there any hope? I'm thinking maybe the processor isn't fast enough. If it is a storage issue she could dump some of her gazillion pictures onto a hard drive, but I can't get her a new computer. What do you think? Thanks for any ideas.

That iPod nano, being a recent model, requires fairly up-to-date software.
That includes iTunes, which you already have updated. And, the part that you need, which is OS X 10.4.8 or newer.
Your Tiger disk is probably grey, and came with a different Mac... It can boot the iBook, but immediately says "this software can't be used on this computer", something close to that wording... That's a restore DVD for a different Mac, and can't be used on the iBook.
So, you could use that iPod on YOUR Mac, but your daughter's needs to be updated to at least version 10.4.8
What to do? Find a commercial version of OS X 10.4 or higher. It will be on a black DVD, with a big X across the label. You can find on eBay, but be careful that you get one with the black disk, eh? There are also resellers that will provide what you need. You could also upgrade your Daughter's iBook G4 to OS X 10.5, which is easy to find - just pay $130 for it.

Thanks, that is very helpful. I may just go ahead and upgrade her system. I'm glad it isn't the hardware.
