I just bought a 30-gig iPod Photo - it is VERY slow to update. I started it about two hours ago and it's only gotten through 1000 songs. It came with a USB 2 cord - is firewire that much faster and why doesn't it use firewire? I had a 2nd generation 10 gig that was light years faster to update!! I know it'll be worth the wait but still . . . any tips?

Does your Mac have USB 2 ports? What model of Mac is it?
the iPods don't come with a FireWire cord now, but you can add that, and will work good on a Mac, and will be faster, even if your Mac has USB 2 ports.

Yeah, it has two ports. It's a 17" 1Ghz Powerbook. Short of buying a firewire cable, there's nothing else that can be done? Worth the investment I think. P.S. this is a great website! Amazingly fast reply! Thank you!!

That explains it... The 1 GHz Powerbook 17 does not have USB 2 ports, just USB 1.1, so you will need to buy the FireWire cable, and you'll be up to speed then. There are USB 2 PC cards that should work in your card slot, but why not use our built-in ports?
