They don't look worrisome. They're all Flash player related, it seems. Where were they created?

Hi Ben
Thanks for your response.

They were created in the following path.
home/library/prefs/macromedia/flashplayer/#shared objects/s7xhe27u/widgets

The one I was worried about was the widgets.clearspring.com because it had # symols and odd letters.

They appeared after joining myspace and I guess I'm just a bit paranoid about people accessing my computer and info.

So nothing to worry about?

Since I have a mac is there anything I should do in general to protect against spyware, or is it pretty secure as it is. I have a g4 laptop running tiger 0sx.

Thank you very much for your time. This is a great site and I will spread the word.

Clearspring develops tracking widgets for sites like MySpace, as explained here. The association clearly has something to do with Flash content you're viewing. If you're really concerned, I suppose you could complain to MySpace. But the simplest thing to do is probably just to trash the contents of that widgets folder.

As for spyware in general, there is none on the Mac. Tracking cookies are pretty rare, I think. The odd set of letters and numbers is not an unusual way of encoding a folder that represents a profile of some kind. (In this case, the places where you have viewed Flash content.) Mozilla does the same with user profiles.
