I want to install a file that has an .iso file extension on my iMac. How do I do this?

well, you'll need to burn it to a CD-R using either disk utility (mac os x) or your favorite CD burning program, such as Roxio Toast (OS X & 9) and then use the installer off the CD.

I tried that, but the CD just had the one iso file, it didn't create an installer file when I burned it to a CD. Is there a step that I'm missing?

yep, but first I need to know what program and version of OS X you are running.

ok

open "Disk Utility (Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities)

go to "Images>Burn" in the dialog box, choose the .iso file you'd like to burn.

then, make sure there's a blank disk in, and click "burn"

That's is what I did the first time, but it led to the problem, it didn't create an installer file when I burned it, there was just the .iso file and it wouldn't open.
