My name is Steven, and I am a relatively new mac user. My father recently passed away about two months ago. I haven't really used my laptop since, but now I am looking to reformat it.

Parental Controls were put on the laptop, and whenever I needed to install/download program that was blocked my father would simply put the password in. I am trying to reformat now, but the Disk Utility program is blocked. I'm not too sure what to do at this point. Should I take it to the apple store? I don't know the administer account username/password.

Would the apple store even be able to do anything about it? I'm 18 and a senior in high school, and will be using this machine in college.

Dear Steve,

Thank you for using MacOSX.com free Macintosh support.

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

Sorry for your lost. Do you have the original CD/DVD that came with your MacBook? If so, you can use that to unlock the Mac and to reset the Administrator password.

I hope this helps.
