Hallo!

New macer, i am trying to set up all libraries along with hard disc's , devices, folders and i am comfused with the storage way of mac os x. What i want to do is to have all media files, in any compatible format, on external hard disc and use i tunes - iphoto - and front row for all media files.

My query's are:

1. Does itunes uses its own size with its own storage place with all files or have a source (itunes music i guess) and the files are once storaged inside? I was thinking that having the same files 2 times storaged in (1st in itunes app and 2nd in a folder) would be too much, but when i tried to delete a file from folder i realised that from itunes app library is not deleted.
However, i did preferences/advanced/general/folder location/
and saw that when burning a cd a new folder is created at the itunes music folder location.

2. The same query occurs also for iphoto and its storage setting. Any clarification would be appreciated.

3. Finally, front's row settings show that pictures are getting from iphoto and music from whole mac. If i connect an external HD will be detected from front row? Which are the settings that I have to do?

Apologize for my english,

Thank you for your time

Greetings

iTunes stores all the files in your home/music/itunes folder. You can this to an external drive if you want. iTunes will store all files it uses in this location.

to move this folder, follow this article:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748

iPhoto works the same way and you can follow this article:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...en/hlp144.html

Take care

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Articles are very useful.

Guess that all these query's wil be answered practical once i buy the external Hard drive.
However, please advice me for the 3rd question regarding to front row. Thanks

Furthermore, i was trying to find out how quicktime player works but i faced some problems. Please let me know how can i put a track to the queue. Is there any quicktime library or something like itunes? if i open two tracks in parallel two quicktime players open along. is that changing?

Thanks once again

Regards

Front Row pulls the music from the itunes library, Pictures from iPhoto and movie. the DVD player, plays from the DVD drive.

Front Row is nothing more then a special user interface to allow you quick access to your media.

QuickTime is a little more complex... There are many parts to it but the part you see (the QT player) allows you to play music, movies (certain types). QuickTime does not have a library that it pulls from.

Does this answer your question? or Did I miss it??

Yes yes..we are so near..

To sum up, please your comments will be super useful,

-Front row pulls music from itunes and itunes from the folder you have set (preferences/advanced/location). A track that is inside both itunes and itunes folder is not double storaged in. - What about a track that is inside itunes and not inside itunesfolder?

-Front row pulls photos from iphotos and iphotos from iphotos folder. (which looks like the indeed apps)

-front row pulls movies only if a movie is storaged inside movies project folder, or form dvd drive (so you see the movie from the dvdplayer).

-quicktime player can only play an audio file and i cannot put a second file at the queue. Actually cannot use it as the basic player.

Did i find it?

correct my friend, QT only plays A/V Files one at a time... There is no way to que them up in a library. Everything else is pretty much correct as well.

Take care
