If I have the same version of a song on 4 different playlists, should that song be listed four times in the library or only once? I ask because I was scrolling through my library and saw a bunch of duplicates, but I wasn't sure if deleting a duplicate listing in the library would delete that song from a playlist.

Hi and welcome back to macosx.com

(1) No, one entry in the Library can be referenced in several playlists

(2) if you delete a song from the library, it would be deleted in any playlist in which it is referenced.
On the contrary, deleting a song froma playlist do not delete it from the library

May I also suggest you the Doug Scripts for itunes ?
http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php
A bunch of Applescript which will help you in your daily management of iTunes tracks. I'm sure you'll the scripts which help you to track duplicate or dead tracks

Philippe

Hey, Philipe

thanks for the speedy reply. 402 iTunes scripts!!!! Looks I have some browsing to do. I can't wait to see what I discover, although I'm not sure how scripts work, since I've never installed any on my own.

But another question, if you don't mind. I have 2 download managers: iGetter and SpeedDownload 4. I like the former better so that's the one I've been using. then I upgraded SD4 and now that seems to be the default download manager. Even when I removed it from Growl, it puts itself back and overrides IGetter. There must be a default setting somewhere, but I can't remember how I set it in the first place.

Thanks, Philipe

iGetter vs SD
Well I would try to uninstall both and reinstall the only one I want to keep.

Well, in fact, I have no experience on such plug-in.
Would it better to start a new ticket with this specific issue
Phil
