iTunes is locking up when opening ever since upgrade to v7.5. Doesn't quit when 'Force quitting'.

iTunes updated to 7.5, OS X updated to 10.4.11 and Quicktime upgraded to 7.3 when problem started.

Other problems noticed: Computer doesn't shut down. Screen goes blank, leaving just the desktop picture, but goes no further. Also getting the locking up issue on a game (Football Manager 2008) which is installed.

There have been some issues I have seen and the first thing I would do is to Repair and Verify your disk permissions through disk utility.

I'm something of a novice when it comes to Disk Utility, so forgive any ignorance I display here!

When opening the Disk Utility program I get the message "Gathering disk information", with the spinning 'beach ball'. This has been like this now for 10 minutes or so. I presume this shouldn't be the case?

Ok. After rebooting the computer it allowed me to do this. I 'verified disk permissions' and 'repaired disk permissions'. The problem still persists tho.

I've also noticed 'DISK_IMG' on my desktop which wasn't there before the update/problem started.

are you showing your hidden files?

re-installing iTunes may also help.

Hmm... the problem has been resolved. It seems that it was all due to a USB stick that was plugged in.

Thanks for your help.
