Hello,

I have a macbook with the Tiger OSX
I just updated to the new iTunes 7.5. After the instalation it asked to restart the computer, I did. Then the mac would not turn on. It stayed in the empty grey screen. I started it in safe mode, holding down the shift key until the apple symbol came up.
The computer is now on safe mode but I am not able to use iTunes, I try playing any songs and there is just nothing. It won't even start playing.

I could trouble shoot later today. My boyfriend is the computer literate so he'll be traying to fix it. I was wondering if there is anything I could do right now.

thanks,
Jemma

Jemma,

Safe Mode can be useful for troubleshooting. However, certain Mac OS X features do not work when you are started up in Safe Mode. For example, you can't use DVD Player, capture video in iMovie, use an AirPort card, use audio input or output devices, or use an internal or external USB modem.

What version of OS X are you running? To find this, go to the Blue Apple at the top left and select About this Mac. The window that opens will tell you what OS 10.4 you are running as well as how much memory (ram) is installed.

Did you have iTunes 7.3 installed or an older version?

Did you have any add on installed to iTunes before you updated?
Close iTunes and try moving 3rd-party add-ons temporarily to the desktop to troubleshoot the behavior. iTunes stores 3rd-party plug-ins and scripts at the following locations:

Home/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
hard drive/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins

Now restart the computer and let me know if all goes well.

If it does, you may need to recreate your iTunes library. The instructions for doing this is here:

Hello Cheryl,

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I did not know that about Safe Mode, I guess that makes sense.

I have turned the Mac on and everything seems to work fine. It just took a little bit too long to start. I have just restarted it, this time it did not take long and everything continues to work. I guess the mac healed itself

Don't know how but it works now.

Thank you,
