i was importing a new cd's songs into my itunes when 5 songs into the import a bov appeared saying" The itunes music library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full. Removing files and emptying the trash will free up additional space." I have emptied the trash several times and I don't know how to remove files except by putting them in the trash and deleting them, which is what I did. The box is still appearing on my screen even when I am just playing songs. Everytime I hit the ok button, the box just appears again. I know my iPodmini isn't full because it has only about 700 songs on it and it can hold 1000. What should I do to fix this?

Try deleting the iTunes music library.xml file (or something close to that) and opening iTunes again. If that fails, check how much space you have on your computer (click Macintosh HD on the desktop ONCE and enter command+i) and see space remaining.

This is to do with your computer not your ipod, don't worry

but by deleting the music library.xml will i lose all my music?

no, the .xml file is a database of the songs and where they are so that iTunes can find them. when you start iTunes again, it will create a new .xml file with all of your songs. If it makes you feel uneasy, backup all of your songs to a folder on your desktop. (You won't need to, but if it will make you feel better)

ok so i put that xml thing in the trash and emptied it and then turned off itunes and then when i turned it back on kand tried to import songs the same message as before appeared. i also checked how much space i have on my computer and it said it has a capacity of 9.54 and an available 97.6 and that i'd used 9.44 gb on the disk

ah! your problem is that your computer's hard drive is full! the 97.6 that's available is in Kilobytes, which is about 1/300th of a song. What kind of mac do you have? I'm guessing either and iMac or a clamshell iBook right?

For the iMac, it's simple to get a bigger hard drive, just go to your nearest electronics store and buy a hard drive. (most are mac-compatible, but it helps to see the little icon on the box) cost: ~$40 for 40GB

For the iBook, you have two options:

1. Get a bigger HD, which is difficult because it's a strange size, and hard to find. 40GB there should cost about $70, and you'll want to bring it into an apple store to have them switch it out.

2. Re-install Mac OS X, but customize it, and exclude lots of stuff you dont need, such as printer drivers you dont need (most of those packages are at least 300MB a piece).

since i can't see exactly what copmuter it is, click the apple on the top-right and click "About this Mac". Then Click "More Info". (If the "More Info" isn't there then find "System Profiler" in Application/Utilities and open that.)

On the first page it should tell you what you have, processor and other things.

Then go to the ATA section and see what size the hard drive "Macintosh HD" is, and im guessing its 6GB (or 5.56 or something)

I would spend the money on an external hard drive that connects via firewire. Go for something over 10GB, but you dont need more than 100GB. IF you plan on doing iMovies as well as music, then opt for a bigger HD (like 200GB).

To put all of your music on that new HD, make a new folder called "Music" on your new Hard Drive go into your iTunes Preferences and Advanced, and change the location of your itunes music folder to that new folder on the new hard drive. Then make sure the "Consolidate Library" Box is checked. iTunes should then keep all of you music on the new hard drive.
