I click the iTunes icon, it bounces and there's a half second of disk activity but the main screen never appears. If I right click, the force quit option appears, so it looks like the application is loaded.
Any ideas why or how to fix it?
I'm running iTunes V5 on OSX 10.3.9
Hi Steve,
After reading your post it dawned on me to check to see what the minimum requirements are for iTunes 5.0 so I went to Apple and did just that:
Macintosh Requirements
* Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later
* 500MHz G3 processor or better
* QuickTime 6.5.2
* 256MB RAM
* Combo/Super Drive to burn CDs
* Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
The following is from
www.macfixit.com
"Make sure you have QuickTime 7.0.2 and other updates installed As noted by Apple in the iTunes documentation, it is imperative that you have both the latest updates of QuickTime (7.0.2) and Mac OS X (10.2.8, 10.3.9 or 10.4.2 depending on whether you are using Jaguar, Panther or Tiger respectively) for correct iTunes 5.0 operation." Also, if you are using any iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, etc.) they will need to be updated to the latest versions for proper interaction with iTunes 5.0.>>
Steve, I checked out the Discussions Forum at
www.apple.com/support for iTunes and you are NOT alone. Users are posting with the same exact issue.
In most cases, users need to update the software mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Also, run Disk Utility>Repair Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications>Utility folder.
After making certain you have all of your updates, if iTunes 5.0 still does not launch, I would trash the application and re-download a new iTunes 5 file.

Please post back and let me know if anything helped.

Well, iTunes inexplicably worked after I let the system sit overnight. This problem manifested after installing v5.0, so maybe it was just very slow to update to the point that it was ready to launch. I appreciate your reply. it's very cool that people like you are willing to help out.
