I made a stupid mistake and wiped my hard drive clean--lost everything. How can I access I-tunes to get them to download again all the songs we bought ??? Thanks Bill
Also is there a good course offered online for beginners on the Mac ????
Thanks Bill Doolittle
I'm miffed by how you could erase your hard disk accidentally, but at the same time this is the unfortunate lesson that all too many users learn when their hard disks crash and they haven't backed up their data. Apple does not allow users to redownload songs for free. If you did not copy them to another medium previously, you have lost them permanently.
Here are some places to find free tutorials, training demos, and the like:

I'm sorry to offer the cold hard truth so bluntly, but that's just it. Could I have been kinder simply saying that it's impossible to redownload songs previously purchased? This is perhaps the only downside to the iTunes model of song purchase instead of rental, as the various subscription services run; as long as you pay your monthly or annual fee, you get to continue listening to the music.
Since you didn't ask about hard disk recovery, I'm sorry, too, that I didn't offer this other tidbit. If you're not still using the hard disk you erased, you may be able to recover the data using Prosoft's Data Rescue utility.

If you've reinstalled everything already, you're less likely to be able to access lost data, because Mac OS X overwrites space previously occupied by data without waiting until it has used all previously unused space first. (The latter is how Mac OS 9 and earlier functioned.)
