when playing songs from my iTunes 6.0 after a few minutes the computer logs out and I have to log back in and start over, this also happens when I'm on the internet and leave the computer unattended for few minutes, and it say internet was terminated
because not in use, is there a way I can play music or leave my internet and download files without the this annoying problem. it seem that if I don't hit a key or something, the computer thinks I'm away for good and logs out.

Aloha David,
I would like to try and help with this issue. I have had a similar problem before. First, I see you have lots of experience, but what type of computer are you working with?
matthew2006 - Oct 7, 2006 - 11:06 am
Apple tiger OS x 10.4.3 1.67 mhz 512 ram iTunes 6.0

Is that on a Powerbook? And is your machine a G4 PowerPC? If it is, the first thing I would do is go and do a software update for your system. It will upgrade you to 10.4.8, and you will be working with iTunes 7 then. If you are running a notebook, then your issue could be with your energy saver settings. Goto Apple menu>system preferences>Energy Saver. If on an apple notebook you will see two drop downs at the top. The first is for the ES profile (ac adaptor, or Battery). Select the ac adaptor if this is where you are using your computer. Then adjust your settings to how you would like them. Because my power book is almost never moved when it's plugged in, I just set it to never go to sleep, unless I tell it too. There is another setting for the notebook when it's on battery power I just left those where the factory set them. With any luck this will be a simple solution to your problems. Let me know please, and I will try to keep looking for other possible problems/solutions.
Kevin

David, something else that seems to need doing once in a long while, is reseting the PMU. I am still not sure what computer you are using (IE: powerbook, iBook, Imac, and what processor you have) so I am sending the directions for a PowerBook....
Try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit):
1) Shut down the PowerBook.
2) Disconnect the battery charger and remove the battery.
3) Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
4) Install the battery and connect the battery charger.
5) Turn ON the PowerBook.
6) After it boots up you will see a screen message saying the clock time has been set. Click OK.
See if that helps or not....
Also, is this a problem on ALL user accounts or just the one you are using?

Ok, So I have dug into this a bit more, and while searching It seems that this is a pretty common problem with Powerbooks. It seems to be linked with temperature sensors that are out of whack and has been solved by sending/taking your computer into Apple to repair. The problem people seem to be finding out is with the Logic Board or Top Case. There are a couple of ways you can test for this problem, but unfortunately no way for me to fix them. First is to download this wigit:
. Once you have it downloaded, unzip it, and install it this way:
- TempSensor requires Dashboard, so you need Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) or better
- To install the software, simply click on this link with Safari, or download the file and unzip. Place in ~/Library/Widgets or place in /Library/Widgets if you want TempSensor to be available for other users.
- To uninstall, simply drag TempSensor.wdgt to the trash.
This wigit will give you operating temps of several sensors in your computer. The one that seems to be a link between what other users are experiencing is the track pad sensor. It seems that if you are getting hokey readings there then you have the same problem everyone else does. There have been reports of readings as low as -115F up to 183F at this sensor. (currently my track pad is stable at 80.3F)
The hypothesis here is that the sensor sends a faulty overtemp signal to the PMU (power management unit) and says HEY!!! I AM TOO HOT GO TO SLEEP NOW!!!!
Another way to find out if this is what’s happening is to look in your system logs go to (directly after this sleeping happens):
-Applications>Utilities>Console This will take you into a terminal looking screen with everything your puter is doing/has done.
-Click the Logs Icon in the tool bar at the top left of the window.
-Click on system.logs
You are looking for something like this:
Nov 29 19:56:42 gYsd-17 kernel[0]: Power Management received emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
Nov 29 19:56:52 gYsd-17 kernel[0]: System Sleep
Nov 29 19:56:52 gYsd-17 kernel[0]: System Wake
Nov 29 19:56:52 gYsd-17 kernel[0]: Wake event 0020
If you see that then I would say you are having the exact same issue as these other PB users, and you need to get your computer to Apple...some folks have reported that Apple replaced their PBs (keep your fingers crossed and back everything up before taking it in).
I hope that this leads to a solution for your problem. Oh, and here is the thread that seems to have the most info on this problem. (you can also search apple.support.com for "Random sleep")
random sleep thread Please, don't take this as I am pawning your issue off, but I am thinking this is the problem you are having. Please let me know what you find out, as I am just now learning of this issue too....although my puters are behaving themselves.
Good Luck,
Kevin
And thanks for using MacOSX.com to help solve your computer issues

Open the Security pane of System Preferences and uncheck the box that logs you out after a period of inactivity.
