iWeb won't publish my sites. It keeps asking me to sign in to .mac even though I already signed in and it says my password is valid. My DSL provider is SBC. This just started happening, I believe after an update. But I am not sure. I have looked at apple's support forums, other people have this problem but no one has answered this question.

Please help!

Hi,

My name is Carolyn and I will try to assist you.

The first thing that comes to mind is to Repair Permissions using Disk Utility. DU is in your Applications folder. Launch DU, select, "MacintoshHD" in the panel on the left, then click Repair Permissions. Let it run... Quit DU and reboot. Launch iWeb and try to publish your site now... if you need further assistance, just post back.

I don't think this is related to your SBC DSL connection. I use iWeb myself with Comcast and have yet to have a problem with iWeb from that source. One more thing, how much space do you have in your iDisk?

Carolyn :-)

I decided to dig a little deeper into your issue with iWeb. Is it possible your iDisk storage is full? Read the following just in case:

About .Mac data transfer limits
.Mac monitors the amount of data transfer associated with each .Mac account in order to ensure a high level of performance for all .Mac users. When you purchase a .Mac membership, you receive 1 GB of storage and up to 10 GB of data transfer per month.

If you are close to exceeding your monthly data transfer limit, you will receive a message from the .Mac team. You can use up to half of your monthly quota during the first 15 days of a month. If you exceed your data transfer limit, any site, blog, or podcast associated with your .Mac account is turned off and service will not be reinstated until the beginning of the next monitoring period (the 1st or 16th of the month, whichever comes first).

You can check your data transfer usage at any time by clicking Details on your Account Settings page. (To see your Account Settings page, go to www.mac.com, log in, and click your member name on the .Mac tab.)

As specified in the .Mac terms and conditions, member data transfer limits are determined by the amount of .Mac storage you have. You can increase your monthly data transfer limit up to 250 GB per month by adding more storage space to your .Mac account.

This is from the .mac/iDisk Help Menu.... might shed some light on the problem. If this doesn't help and Repairing Permissions doesn't help... defintely post back and I will keep looking for possible fixes for you.

Carolyn :-)
I use .mac/iWeb/iDisk and have not experienced this problem yet so I'm hoping we can get yours going!!!

So sorry about this Carolyn. Didn't know you had responded. I get an applescript error when trying to view tickets with the offline version of 'Help'.
Anyhoo, I tried the permissions repair. No luck. I am currently using 135 MB/815MB of space on my iDisk. There is something fundamentally wrong with .Mac. This is happening when I try to publish anything. I gave up on iWeb and trying to share my photos. I just tried to publish my calendar with iCal. Same problem. I can't imagine that my 6 little entries on my calendar is causing me to exceed my space limitations. This is what happens.
1. I select Publish in iCal.
2. It says: "Your .Mac configuration is not correct. Please set up your .Mac account." (which to my knowledge i've already done)
3. I click on Open .Mac preferences pane
4. I sign in on the pref pane, it say the password is valid.
5. I return to iCal, rept steps 2 - 4 infinitely

I noticed after signing in and getting my password is valid, I click on Sync on the .Mac pref pane either everything is greyed out or it tells me that .Mac doesn't recognize my username and password and I need to re-enter them.

When I click on iDisk and (attempt to) turn on Syncing it asks me for my password, then the little wheel beside "iDisk syncing starting up" goes round and round without end.

Needless to say, my calendar never gets published, my websites never get published and I feel like I wasted my $$ purchasing .Mac b/c since i bought it, it has never worked. But, the support period with Apple is up now. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The answer is here as taken from:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....41236&#2341236

I finally got the solution from Apple Support as top why my iWeb was not publishing. It kept asking me to login and although it acceptem my password it still asked me to LOGIN. The problem was in my keychain. Here is what solved it.
1. Open Keychain access in Utilities folder
2. Delete each item with a .Mac label in the KIND column (I had none)
3. Quit Keychain access.
4. Open System Preferences and click on .Mac
5. Reenter your Mac member name & password
6. Restart your computer

To create a new keychain
1. Click on FINDER icon in the dock
2. Click on the Home icon in your HOME folder
3. Open the Library folder and move the Keychains folder to the desktop
4. Restart the computer
After restarting reenter your .Mac member name and password in the System Preferences and thenb try and publish. It worked for me after weeks of trying to solve the problem.
