OS Version: MacOS 8.1
Description:
I bought my Mac in the States and now live in Japan. I have found a good deal on a laser printer, but the people in the store and at Epson tell me that I would be better off not buying it--the printer driver is in Japanese and my OS is in English. Is there anything I can do short of buying the Japanese edition of OS 8.1 and installing it on a small partition of my hard disk? If I do take this route, will there be any problem with printing from English software on other partitions?

Sorry for the delay on answering your question it and this probably won't answer all your questions. You didn't mention which model Epson printer you were looking at. But here is what i know. Many printers have resident fonts and if this printer is a Japanese model, chances are the english versions of fonts are not installed. You should be able to download the english version of the driver and run it, but if you were to purchase the postscriptt rip software you might run into problems as it downloads info into the printer once and I can't be sure of the compatibility of that. However, if you just want an inexpensive printer w/o PS, getting the printer and downloading the driver would probably suffice.
You can also go to Epson's site at
www.epson.com and post your question with the printer model number and they are usually quite prompt in replying.
