I had asked a question the other day about the failure of my junk mail filter to filter properly, and received this response:

Terry,
Open Mail, Preferences, Junk Mail settings. Make sure they are set correctly. If they appear to be set correctly, and are not working, reset junk mail using the reset button.
Good luck!

That didn't work, so I responded to the response as follows:

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I still have emails marked as junk even when the email addresses are in my Address Book (and that box is checked in preferences, as well as the one with previous recipients and addressed with my full name). After I reset the filter, I went back and tried to 'train' it NOT to mark emails with addresses in my Address Book. No luck. Also when I send something to myself, I am marked as JUNK! This is very frustrating. Any other suggestions?

In the mean time, I have turned off the filter!

Thanks.....again.

Terry,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you.

You need to delete your Rules and start over. There is something in one of your rules that is mistaking good email for bad.
Go to Mail Menu>Preferences. When that opens, click on the Rules icon.
Now click once on one rule, then hit the Remove button. Do this to all the rules you have set.

Since you have disabled the junk mail filter, go to the Junk Mail and set it to enable junk mail. Now select under When junk mail arrives - click on leave it in my inbox. This is the training mode.

Now when junk mail comes through, you need to click on the email, then click on the Junk icon. At this point, you will need to delete the emails manually. After two weeks, you should be able to go back to Mail's preferences and set Junk Mail to Automatic.
