Computer Type: Apple
Model: G3 minitower 233mhz
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I would like to use Virtual PC on my G3, install Microsoft remote access services software gotten from the PC services dept. at work here in Rockford, IL, on the G3 so I can signon from home to the home office of my employer, which is in Little Rock, Arkansas. I would be signing on to a server at work here in Rockford, IL, which is connected to the mainframe computer in Little Rock. Would this be possible? Virtual PC makes it possible to run PC software on my Mac, but I wonder if I'll have a problem when the software (using IPX protocol) tries to use my Mac modem to do a singon. I'm trying to avoid buying a PC laptop to sign on to work in Little Rock. I'd much rather buy a Mac, not just for this purpose, but for other uses. Hope you can understand my question. Thanks, Denny.

Denny,
It may be possible to do it since Virtual PC does let you set the com port to the Mac's modem. HOWEVER, if the modem is an internal Mac modem you'll have trouble finding Windows drivers for the modem. If you have a generic brand you should be able to go to the modem vendor's web site and download a compatible driver for windows. I won't promise you won't have problems... after all you're dealing with a PC even if it is just a "virtual" PC.

If you're asking if you should do it or not, I can't really answer that for you. You might try contacting Connectix and see if they could help you get some confidence in how it will work.

Thanks for using NoWonder,
