Description:
I'm just curious. I read in the January issue of MacHome an article that showed how to speed up my webbrowser. I'm using Netscape. The article told me how to create a Ram Disk on te desktop and send all of the chache files there.
My question is this - I notice that when I shut the computer down I get the screen message saying that the Ram disk is about to be delketed. Do I want to continue. Is this ok, and where in the world does everything go?

Hi Gary, this is Jeremy from No Wonder. When you create a RAM disk everything you put on the RAM disk is only in the computers memory, it is not saved anywhere on your hard drive. This means that when you shut down the Mac, you lose all of the information on the RAM disk. This is similiar to creating a word processing document but not saving it. If you just quit your word processor without first saving the file you are working on, the file would be gone.

What you can do is copy the contents of your RAM disk to your hard drive before shutting down, then copy the contents back when you start up aain. You may want to look into creating Applescripts to do this for you. Also, if you upgrade to OS 8.5.1, it allows you to automatically save the RAM disk contents at shutdown, and replace them at startup.
