Hey there, I've read previous help on your site for this problem, tried it all, so looking for a hail mary pass.

eMac G4 1gz, 10.4.2, 768meg ram.
Kanguru Quicksilver firewire DVD rw.

I was running 10.3.9 when first hooked up yesterday. Then tried 10.3 restore, and all the .'s in between. Upgraded to 10.4.2 this morning (good excuse to go Tiger). still no mount.

System profiler sees and unknown device in the firewire report.

Zapped pram even. Problem is that Kanguru is closed on the weekends, so here I am.

Your help is appreciated.

Is there any change when you put a disk in the drive?
What burning software comes with the drive for a Mac - Is it Toast or Toast Lite, or something else?
Have you tried that software? The drive might not be useful or supported without that software. Another possibility could be software called Patchburn. You can find more about that here - http://www.patchburn.de/
Also check here http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ for more info about using a variety of different burners with OS X.

Let me know how it goes...

Thanks for the quick response. No change when disk is inserted, either -R, +R, or movie DVD. Patchburn cannot see it. It will be a while looking through xlr8 website.

I'll give Kanguru a call tomorrow morning, hopefully I can exchange it for a USB drive at least.

USB would not be an improvement for you, unless your 1 GHz has USB 2.0 ports.
