I work at a newspaper and we are trying to upgrade to OSX. It is working for the most part except the fact that when I type I get multi charcters from time to time. That is not good for a news paper. The word "as" can be assssssss or worse ... much worse ... ass.
I have run "coctail" a tone of times and it has not fixed the problems. Any ideas?
Help.

Have you checked the 'delay until repeat' setting in your Keyboard and Mouse preference pane? If you have already checked settings, then have you tried a different keyboard?

What should it be set at off, long or sshort?
It did it again with the ss --
Any other ideaas? -- it did it with the aa --
Why would you think it was the keyboard?

Set the setting for repeat to your preference. If the key repeats too soon, make the delay longer, or turn it off.
If changing the setting doesn't help, then something is causing the repeat. All keyboards have a 'debounce' circuit, which prevents double-typing or repeating because of mechanical issues present in all keyboard 'switches' (press the letter, you are pressing a switch which causes the electrical connection to make the character.) If this debounce (and other electronic circuits) is not working properly, then the keyboard will not respond to your typing correctly.
Have you tried a different keyboard??

It is happening to my computer at home ass well. (ss in as did it again.)
It doees not happen as much at home as it ddoes at work.
It never happened before I got a new computer. I have the neew I-mac. (ee -- new -- Did it again.)
Are you sure it is not a osx issue? I run a few os9 programs.
I am still unsure of what you want me to look for in the keyboard/moucce (cc -- did it again) prefs.

Very strange - which Mac models do you have both at home and at work?
Which version of OS X are you using - both at home and work?
It's not an OS X issue
The settings you are looking for, are in the Keyboard & Mouse pref pane, keyboard tab. These are the sliding settings for Key Repeat Rate, and Delay Until Repeat, You adjust these to your preference. If you still get keys that repeat, try changing to Slow, and Off respectively.
Have you tried a different keyboard?
And a last question - Does this happen in only one app?
If you are not sure, open TextEdit, and type in a test document.

I am ussing 10.3.6 (ss -- again)
I was told by our Mac guy tthat running (cocktail) will fix it. (tt -- again) It has not.
Is there anyone else out there that has any problems like this? Does Apple know about it?
It happens in every application. It never happened before I switched computers. It happens once in a while at home.
I shut off the repeat mode in the keyboard prefs file. Still happens.
What else can we do? My keyboard at work ddoes nott work on the other computers. (dd and tt) It must be a issue with the new I-mac keyboards.
Should I try it and see?
