Description:
The keyboard stops working but the mouse still works. Sometimes the numloc and caploc lights are on and won't turn off. I've tried changing keyboards, changing cords, dumping prefrence files, starting without extensions, & running Norton Utilities. It seems to happen most when the computer is started in the morning. Then after messing with it for about an hour it decides to work. Occasionally it will happen in the middle of a document but not in any particular application. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hello Kathy,

Although I think of keyboards lasting for many years, they do wear out and that is one possibility, I suppose. You did say that you pulled and replaced cords. Have you looked at the pins to make sure that one of the pins is not bent and may not being making proper contact when inserted. That can and does occasionally happen.

The fact that your mouse still works tells me that it may well be the keyboard itself. If you could even borrow another Mac keyboard you could verify this even though keyboards are not very expensive anymore.

Let me know.
