My keychain has failed. I have tried everything recommended in the help files and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Also, just got a 280G external drive. Should I partition it or just use the entire drive. Will partitioning helf in finding files more easiy or accessing them more quickly?

To answer your second question first, no partitioning your HD will not make it search faster. Well, not noticably anyway, since OS X indexes all the files it dosen't make much difference if you have 100 files or 10,000. And no, to the second part. Partitioning will not give you a quicker read time. The hard drive will have to spin just as much to access the data, no matter if it's only in one section since OS X auto defrags so either way it's the same ammount of spinning.

On go your first question. It may seem tedious, but PLEASE list what you've done. It isn't much help if you say I've tired everythign, what can I do now? If you've tried everything then you're done . Seriously though, how did it fail? Can you not access it at all? Can you login to your computer? Your login is in the master keychain! Have you tried repairing hard drive permissions? Have you bought a copy of disk warrior and tried a repair?

Thanks for the help.
As to the keychain problems, the symptoms are: On ithe internet It no longer asks if I want to create a keychain. Even if I manually create a keychain it does not open the web site I am accessing.
I have gone into Utilities and the Keychain list. At that point I follow the manual's instructions (at least I think I do)
The computer works. I have repaired hard drive permissions. I don't have disk warrior but I do have the Norton utilities.

Frankly, I have been having general problems with the computer, getting hung up etc. I have uses the Norton utilities and Cocktail to clear these problems and things have generally improved.
Thanks again for the help.

Hi - I use Safari exclusively.

New question - If I do an archive and install using my OS 10.0 disc; in order to get back to OS 10.4.6 do I have to download all the intermediate OS upgrades or will the OS 10.4.6 upgrade do the job?
Thanks

You would need all the intermediate steps. Sorry. An archive and install might be a good step. If you're experiencing multiple problems it might do some good.
