I have a power G3 with Panther OSX 10.3. I have purchaed a Lacie cd-rewriter this doesn't seem to be recognised by itunes. I have Roxio Toast Lite 5.2.1 this doesn't work either. I have tried just connecting to USB port in computer with just the mouse attached. I have tried various writing speeds and adjusting the ram cache etc.I still get an error notice whatever I do. I can copy non music files no problem. Should I ditch the Lacie drive ? Could anyone tell me what rewriters are compatable with itunes? or one which would work successfully ?.....

Ukrexel, welcome to macosx.com
My daughter's imac G3 10.3.8 has a LaCie CD Firewire burner hooked to the machine.
Since September 2003, no problem: either through iTunes, Finder or Toast 5 and now Toast 6
Nothing installed to force the burner to be recognised by the OS
Could you give me the error message ?
Have you connected the burner to another USB port of the G3 ?
Regards and greetings for the New Year
Philippe

Many Thanks Philippe,
The error message is as follows;
Sense Key: Medium Error
Sense Code=OXOC
WRITE ERROR
I have tried the burner in both the USB ports of the computer. itunes tells me that 'no burner or software recognised'....
Kindest Regards and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

(1) Are you sur of the USB cable ?
(2) AppleMenu (toppest left) > About this mac > More infos > Hardware chapter: under USB, do you see the LaCie ?
(3) Is the LaCie only USB ? If yes, I fear it is a USB2 one...and your PM G3 is USB1 only: this can be a source a problem.
In your case, a FireWire connection is highly recommended

Dear Phil.
Yes the USB is recognised as LaCie in the Hardware chapter.
Sadly the Lacie is only USB and it's a 2 one just like you said !
Looks like I will have to sell it on ebay and get a a Firewire model then ?!
Many Thanks
Steve

Could try patchburn to see if this tool is able to create a new profile for your burner ?
This LaCie has its own power adpater or is powered through the USB cable ?
If you buy anothger burner, please be sure you can return the machine if your machine does not recognize it...
But I believe that with FW, you face less problem

Something borrying me: recognized in hardware chapter but "medium error"
I think to a media related problem.
Do you use cheap brand of CD-Rs ? Could test another brand ? (TDK,Verbatim,Benq or maxell are good ones)

Hi Philippe,
Patch burner works !! It's a bit slow (15 minutes for 14 tracks) but works with itunes only not Roxio Toast. I am using Maxwell cd's and they seem fine.
Thank You so much for your help Philippe it's much appreciated.
Kindest Regards
Steve
