I have a Mac and work have provided me with a lacie D2 double layer x 16 speed DVD RW.
I am trying to load Tiger on to my Mac but the team at work cannot find the software so I really need to load Tiger up and get my work done back it up and then email it to the client by Sunday. can you tell me where I can dwon load lacie DVD burner drivers, I don'r have any versions installed.
Can iDVD see this external diver?
Major issue that I may face is that I only have a G4 running OSX v1 and all the connectors are first generation firewire and USB, and I only have cabling for the firewire from the D2 all my own cabling would be FW and USB v1 anyway.
Am I going to be able to do the work ?
Live in a remote part of Scotland where nipping out to the local IT store is not an option as the nearest one will only have basic PC equipment.
The DVD drive should be supported by OSX itself - this is certainly the case with 10.3 and later. To see if it is supported on your system, go to System Profiler (which can be accessed by going to the apple menu, selecting About This Mac and then selecting the More Info button).
Go to the Firewire menu, and then select your device. It will show whether it is supported under the Disk Burning option, which will say Apple Supported if it will work with Disk Utility or the Finder.
This will definitely be supported in Tiger.
If you have an older version of OSX, you would be able to use Toast to burn DVDs with unsupported drives.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
