Hello,
I have a client who owns an older clamshell iBook, running OS 9.x.
They have purchased a newer Lacie USB2 portable DVD/CDRW drive and would like to be able to burn CDs on it. What legacy software options are still available for that combination? He has an older version of Toast, but it doesn't recognize the burner (most likely version 4 or earlier, I haven't got confirmation yet).
I see that NTI still offers an OS 9 version of Dragonburn, do you have any reviews of that product under OS 9?
Thank you and happy new year!
Donn
My main concern is that the Clamshell Ibook doesn't support USB2, so burn speeds are going to have to be painfully slow to be successful.
Don't take this the wrong way, just trying to explain why, but it's not likely that any "legacy" software will have the necessary drivers for a newer device since the software would have been written before the burner was put on the market.
The latest version of Toast that will run on OS 9 is Toast Titanium 5.2.3. There's also a Toast Lite 5.2 that probably has the same or similar driver set. Something to try before you buy...

But I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.
I'm going to reopen this to allow anyone else to respond...
Thank you for the quick response. I'll let you know what transpires.
