Hi,
I'm Greg, your Volunteer Tech. I sincerely enjoy helping people set up their Mac so they can enjoy using it. I try, through a series of short interactions with you, to get enough information to help you. Please don't expect me to solve the problem without giving me more info or not telling me when I haven't yet fixed the problem.

That printer uses the Quickdraw page description language. There are no drivers for OS X for quickdraw printers.

I think it is possible that Classic _could_ print, if you could get Classic to use the serial ports. Please look into this at Matt Broughton's web page for serial printing:
http://webpages.charter.net/mbrought..._printing.html

I can't help you any further, because I don't have a serial printer or an older Mac to try it with.

Good luck.

Hi Greg.

I am really sorry but I forgot to tell about the system:
that is OS 9.1, not OSX.

I did not find any other website about this problem, that
is why I posted this question to you.

Thank you in advance.

Oh, thank you for clarifying that. I guess we have subtopics for OS 9 here - I just hadn't seen one and wasn't thinking....

But unfortunately I don't have an older computer with a serial printer to play around with.
My only suggestions are generic - Unplug and power off the printer for 30 secs and then plug it back in. Now try to set up the printer in the Chooser. If it shows up in the right side, then you're golden. If not, you may need to check in the system folder>Extensions folder to see if the driver and serial port drivers are there. Deleting printer-related prefs from the Prefs folder may also help.

If you like, I can send you back to the rest of the Volunteers to see if anyone has actual experience with this.

Forgot to mention - with a speeded-up processor, it may not be possible to use the serial port (depends on clock timing, and I don't know where the serial port gets its timing).

Dear Greg

I did it the hard way:
I have installed the system 9.0 again, after reformatting
the HD and everything seems to be functioning fine.
After all this I am spending several hours of installing
the softwares and after every installation I am printing
something (hopefully) and up untill now, there has
been no problems. Perhaps tomorrow, everything
will be working as good as new!

Will be in touch if something serious occurs.

Thanks again!

Tommi
