When i launch word (for os x), it has started forcing all the other applications i have open to close and present error boxes. Thereafter, i get a box asking if i want to REOPEN word, which when clicked, opens word normally. I can then open all my orignally opened apps and proceed with work as usual. Any thoughts?

Hi! Have you repaired permissions and restarted? That might be the best quick fix:

apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions

Let me know if this doesn't work.

no luck. when i launch word, after it opens, optimizes fonts and opens to a blank page, it THEN quits and presents me with a dialog box that has a button that says REOPEN. when i click REOPEN, Word opens again without optimizing fonts and remains open for the duration of my work session and presents no additional problems. does that suggest a font problem? i'm running suitcase fusion...

I have heard of issues with suitcase fusion.

Try opening Word without Fusion on. If it then works you know you either have a font issue or Fusion is causing it. Do you have auto-activation turned on in Fusion?

A full is of apps covered by Fusion's 'Auto-Activation' function:

I use a free program called FontExplorer and it has customizeable auto activation for many more programd (though I had issues with it and Illustrator CS crashing, it's a great option):

Yes Natobasso, it is SUITCASE that's the culprit. it may even be a single font. the only reason i think that is that i've had suitcase all along and this problem with word just started recently. thanks for the recommendation on FontExplorer, and thanks for the help overall.
