Hi,
messages with attachment constantly cause Mail 3.1 to Hang (Spinning wheel of death, forever!), and eventually I have to force quit the application.
I've run the disk utility and did a repair permissions on the HD, but nothing helped.
I'm using Leopard (upgrade installation from Tiger), and on Tiger I had no problems.
can anyone help, please?

Maybe check for updates...
are you using 10.5 or 10.5.1?

10.5.1

I'm using Leopard 10.5.1, updated it as soon as it came out - but it didn't solve the problem.
Waiting for help.

Sorry....
I'm going to re-open the ticket for more ideas.

Hi Ziv!
Sorry about hearing you're having problems. I'm going to see if I can help you out. To get a better idea of what's happening, can you provide me with a little more detail? First, is it when you are sending attachments or receiving attachments? Or both? Also, do you have multiple mail accounts? Are you having the problem on all your accounts?

Hi Luc,
Thanks for the reply,
I have 2 accounts active, and its happening only on received attachments.
The scenario i get is that I try to open a message with an attachment, usually WMV files (I have flip4mac installed) or other windows files and nothing happens. I can move on to another message. if I try to open that email again (with the attached file), I get the spinning wheel of death and the application hangs.
Looking forward,
Ziv

I re-installed flip4mac, still the same.

Ziv,
I love a challenge! If the problem is with WMV files specifically, that helps. Can you try to access you email via web-based Safari or other browser instead of the Mail.app? I'd like to see if the problem is related to the application or the attachments. Also, Leopard has made it possible (as you're probably aware) for screen sharing through iChat. If you are open to that option, I'd be glad to take a look at your issue first-hand. For security purposes, if ever you feel someone isn't where they ought to be during a screen-sharing session, pressing Control-Esc will quit the session. If this is an option you'd like to consider, my iChat handle is
koobiluphi@mac.com.

Hi Luc,
Thanks for the offer, I think iChat is a great option. i do not have a .mac option, if its a must, I could try the 60 day trial of .mac
also, it is not specifically related to WMV files..
Thanks,
Ziv

.Mac is not a must. All you need is an AIM screen-name and iChat. Screen-sharing is free! Initiating Screen-sharing will simultaneously start an audio chat, so I can talk you through what I'm doing. Honestly, I won't have much to tell you until I see what exactly the problem is.

After working through screen-sharing, I had a thought. Could people send you those attachments as .zip files? That might allow you to get it to work. I'm guessing that Mail doesn't know how to use the Flip4Mac plugin yet in Leopard.
