TICKET ARCHIVE -> Lexmark B/w Laser Preinrer Optra Lxi Does Not Work With Tiger
Mac Framlingham - Jul 7, 2005 - 1:25 pm
I have a Optra LXi laser printer connected to a G5 by Ethernet. It worked fine with Panther but although it can be addressed for printing in Tiger all its prints from WORD PREVIEW PAGES EXCEL is:
ERROR; undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND
STACK:
The printer works fine from my G4 portable running panther.
The drivers on the Lexmark site are for earlier versions of MACOS
As anyone any idea what is wrong?
or on the Lexmark site "load file to printer" application is for?

Sounds like you need to contact Lexmark about providing drivers for Tiger. Or perhaps just no invest in Lexmark products at all, since the company has a poor reputation.

Have you tried connecting directly to the computer (by USB).

I have yet to receive a reply from Lexmark which is why I tried this site.
Could it be postscript incompatability between Tiger and the printer? It is ten years old and is pre-USB. I'm loathe to throw away a useful printer for running off occasional multiple duplex copies.

Were drivers built-in on Panther?, or did you have to install them separately?, do you recall. The printer isn't listed on LinuxPrinting.org, so it isn't compatible with the UNIX gimp-print system. I wouldn't be surprised if Lexmark decided not to update the driver for a 10-year old product. I would persist at least once more. Is there someone you can call?
If it's a PS issue, do you have an option to print non-PS? There is a thread about the issue of PS and of driver on linuxprinting:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/piperma...q4/000007.html
Notable query to Lex: Do you have a PPD for this printer?
However, before you do all this, look back at the Lexmark driver page for your printer:
http://alnk.org/swellcode
There is now a Printer File Loader utility for Tiger, as well as online documentation. Is this what you've been looking for? The former may be the only way to print to the thing anymore. I wonder.

Ben,
the late reply is due to my not being at home for the last week.
The driver on Panther was downloaded from Lexmark. It is the one for the Optra Lx (not Lxi) but it works fine and still does.
I've downloaded the driver for Optra Lx from the Lexmark for Tiger and installed it. I used the Printer Setup Utility to delete old printers and add the Optra Lx. It recognises the printer and added it. When I print excel pages it appears to print but gives the same "Error undefined."
Afterwards I installed Lexmark's Printer File Loader utility for Tiger, but when I opened it and comes up with the message "Could not connect to the printer Lexmark Optra" !
I don't know of an option to print non-PS

Did you also download the online documentation that's supposed to explain how to properly manage and configure your printer in a variety of setups? I haven't read it yet, but I suppose I will later today.

I did but I could only find separate html pages. They did not help.
