Is there a way to locate a Macintosh on the net by ethernet id or some other similar way. One of mine was stolen last week. It was set up to send its IP address out to No-Ip.com but I had to switch the password on that account so I could use it and I didn't see a way to keep track of the account's history.

Any suggestions?

Even if they did connect to the internet, it would be through a modem, so it would be impossible to tell. I would notify local law enforcement.

The folks at no-ip.com might be able to help you, I would contact them ASAP.

I tried there and since it was a free account the IP history isn't logged. Darn!

A friend of mine had his computers stolen twice in one year. The thieves come back since the know you now have a new computer. I have chained my computers down and installed Mac Phone Home.

Even with Retrospect Backups this has been a nightmare. My Filemaker Pro application doesn't work in Rosetta. Installing all the after market software I had has been a pain too.

I feel bad that I didn't have Filevault on my home folder but I'm worried about Retrospect and Filevault issues. My important files are password protected though.

I have heard of having a partition with all the after market apps on it but I'm not sure how to do this.
