TICKET ARCHIVE -> loss of sound

Description:
I recently had the battery replaced in my Mac. Technician updated system from 7.5.1 to 7.5.5.
Since then the sound comes on when I first boot up then quits. I have tried to adjust sound by going to Control Panel/Sound. That doesn't work. Also have noticed on Volume the muted box is checked and I can't un-check it. Any suggestions?

Hi Mary and welcome to No Wonder!

Try trashing the Monitor and Sound preferences folder and zapping the PRAM - hold down Command(alt)+Option(alt)+P+R at startup until 2 chimes have been heard.
