Description:
I have lost the sound on my iMac. I have not been able to find a mute selection that might be causing the problem.
The only other problem that has started is that when I put the computer to sleep, I can not get the screen picture back unless i do a soft reboot.
I just installed a four port hub, My keyboard is hooked up through the port.

First of all, welcome to No Wonder! Sorry about the wait. To be sure that your problem is not with hardware, detatch any peripherals from your headphone jacks, or from your sound input port.
It is likely that the system volume setting in the Sound portion of the Monitors & Sound control panel is either at the lowest setting or muted. Go into your Monitors & Sound control panel (the control panels are located under the Apple Menu, where you can find the Monitors & Sound control panel)and click on the sound button. A screen should open where you can adjust the sound settings. Either un-check the mute button, or slide the slider to a louder setting.
You mentioned something about hooking up a hub. If your keyboard is hooked up from the hub, take it out, and put it in one of the empty ports of your iMac. It is the best way to make sure that things work properly.
I hope I have been helpful to you, Philip. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for choosing No Wonder!
