Hi Kimberly!
Do you mean Yahoo Messenger? You can download the current version at this link. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22025

If you mean Fire instant messenger, that is no longer in development. The messenger called Adium is well reported, and may be what you want.
Here's a download link for that, too - http://www.adiumx.com/

OS 9 is on your restore disk, which will be grey in color, and will probably say eMac somewhere on the label, as well as the System version. You may have a separate disk, or you may want to check the OS 9 reinstall help at this page - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106294

Hope this helps you...

What version of OS X are you using now?

You tried the sites, but did you download the software to try that out? Most of the downloads that you will find for OS X are disk images (ends in .dmg), and you double-click to open that. You end up with a file that you double-click to open, or to install on your hard drive. Then you will be able to use that software. Which part of that is not working for you?
Please use more words to explain in detail what is not working for you.... OK?

I'm not sure why you might need OS 9.
I gave you links to two different instant message apps. One is not very good anymore (Yahoo), and the other is very well-reported (Adium). Adium can certainly use your Yahoo IM account, check in Adium preferences for that setting. Both do not need OS 9 in any way, neither for downloading, nor for installing. I _do_ see that Yahoo now requires OS X 10.4 or newer, so it probably won't work with your 10.3. Adium should work fine - have you tried that yet?
