Hi Vicky -

You've done some good sleuthing already - you've noticed that your hard disk space is the same as it was before, and this is a promising sign that your photos, music etc. are all still there. So I have a question - did you change the name of your account, or rename your home folder recently? Let's try a check, can you do the following for me?

(1) open your hard disk in the Finder and browse to your Applications folder. Look inside that for a folder called "Utilities" and open that

(2) Inside the Utilities folder, launch the application called "Terminal". A new window should open which allows you to type comands

(3) type the folloing commands exactly as you see it below, and press Enter after each one (note there are no numbers, only letters, I mention that since "el" and "one" look very similar!) It might be easier to cut and paste each line one at a time into the terminal window and press Enter.

ls -l /Users
du -sh /
last | grep console

(4) Cut and paste the entire contents of the terminal window into your reply on this help site, and we'll have a look and see what's what
