Hello. About a year ago, my husband insisted in reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. The only system software I had was the update OSX Panther, as I had inadvertently thrown away the operating system software that came with the computer (10.2? or 10.3?). I no longer have Appleworks, Classics OS 9, my games, and God knows what else. I was wondering if you could let me know what exactly I am missing, and if the computer is somehow flawed, and how best to rectify the situation. I am hopelessly not computer savvy, and know only the basics. My husband is fairly savvy, but uses PC's. Thank You in advance.

Hi Cynthia,

So you don't have the original CD's that came with your computer, but you do have Panther CD, correct?

What kind of computer do you have?

Basically, if you are wanting to get back the applications that you originally had without the system CD's, you're out of luck. You would have to repurchase these programs unfortunately.

Which ones do you want back specifically? There's a good chance you could find a free alternative to what you want online.

Let me know!

Kevin

I have a Mac laptop, iBook. OSX10.39. I would really like to get the Classic 9 system, and Appleworks. Possibly the little alien game. And I assume there is no problem or danger not having these programs on my computer? Thanks for your help!

No, those aren't necessary for your computer to function. For Classic and AppleWorks, you would have to repurchase these. Classic isn't sold anymore by Apple, you'd have to find another dealer to buy from.

Games can be downloaded from macupdate.com and macgamefiles.com
