I cannot log in to upgade my software. My password no longer works.
I do not have a OS system disk.
Is there any way to recover my password or reset it?
I have a MacBookPro with OS 10.4.10.
I have just ordered Leopard and it should arrive in a few days.
Can I retrieve or reset my password with the new OS disk?
Thank you for any help.
Steve
Did you lose your original restore DVDs? There are two DVDs with grey labels.
They are important to find, as if something goes seriously wrong with your Leopard upgrade, then you would be able to reload the Apple apps (iLife, and others) that came originally installed on your MacBookPro.
Yes, you can change your password with your Leopard installer.
Boot to that Leopard DVD. The first screen that you see is to select a language. Next screen - look at the menus at the top of the screen.
Choose Reset (or Change) Password from the Utilities menu.
Choose your hard drive, then choose your account name from the drop down menu. Follow the simple instructions to change your password, then quit that Utility to continue on with the Leopard upgrade.

Thank you for your help. I bought my MacBookPro used and did not get the disks with it. But yesterday I ordered replacement system disks from Apple (only $34 for both disks for OS X 10.4.10). I will use those to reset my password before upgrading to Leopard.
