It won't open! Heck!

I am using the Apple mail program that comes with Tiger...it does a fine job or retrieving my mail from dreadful AOL...
But there seems to be a problem with the address book...I can't open it. I suspect strongly that this is one of those evil AOL issues... I can get addresses through the widgets function, but can't open the address book directly. it won't open at all.
This is a real drag and a major problem, as I can't put in any information...I can only copy addresses through the "add address" function in the Apple mail program. I have tried re-installing to no avail.... any suggestions out there?
thanks so much

Hello Wade,

I am wondering if maybe your AOL preferences in their mail client may have corrupted our Mac Mail preferences. Follow this path:

MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences

Look for this file: com.apple.mail.plist Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash. Launch Mac Mail and see if your Address Book will open. And just in case, when in AOL, hit Command + , (comma) to bring up AOL Preferences. Click on the WWW icon, then click to Empty the Cache. Also, while you are at it, go to your MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences again and trash this file also:
MacintoshHD>Library>Preferences and Trash the: com.aol.aol.plist
Don't worry about trashing these files. When you relaunch either Mac Mail or AOL, new .plist files will have been created for you. Empty the Trash.

At this point I also would suggest using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
MacintoshHD>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.

If none of the above doesn't resolve the issue, please post back. Also, make sure you are using AOL's most recent software for the Mac. Go to Keyword: Upgrade while you are online. The most recent AOL version for MacOS X is:
10.3.6. The way to find that info is to go to AOL>About AOL. It will show the version of AOL you have installed.

Carolyn :-)
