I've been searching for a .mac alternative that will help me keep my Mac Pro and MacBook synced. I'd like it to be free as I've found software that costs money and if I was willing to pay, then I'd just get a .mac account.
So my question is, is there any free applications or free services that are similar to .mac?

What are you trying to sync? There is no "all in one", but there are many small services that can help.
Plaxo.com can sync address book.
IMAP email can sync your email.
You can sync your calanders using (

You can sync data using box.net.
etc....
Is this good? Anything else I can do for you?

I'm basically trying to sync everything that .mac does, but I'd also like to mirror my files on each computer. But I'd really like it to be automatic.
Basically when I connect my macbook to the network, I'd like my mac pro to see it, sync all the data that is needed and then be done with it. I normally don't edit any files on my macbook, it's just used to present the informaiton I've worked on. I do, in some cases, work on my macbook and would need those files synced with my mac pro and replaced with the newer ones.
My main concerns are my safari bookmarks, contacts and ical. Everything else I can do without, as I use gmail as my primary email.

I've found the .mac alternative article where I can basically setup a .mac service of my own and configure my mac, but I'm not good enough with apache and programming to do so myself. If I could find someone that could set it up for me and configure my macs to work with it, I've got chorono sync that I could probable setup correctly to use to sync all my files.

I've seen that article too....sorry-I won't be able to help you setup your server. You may consider going to MacComanion.com and on the left sidebar look at the mac geeks for hire....sorry about that....would you like me to open your ticket up for another representative?

Yeah open it back up and see if anyone else might be able to do it.
The link you gave me above isn't working. Also the one from your first response to the article on here isn't working either.
Thanks for your help though a few of the programs you suggested I might use.

You could do FolderShare. It's an internet based sync program from microsoft that keeps files synced and allows you to access entire computer contents via the internet through any browser. It's entirely free. You can look at it more at foldershare.com it you're interested.
Cheers,

That doesn't work for mac though does it?

Yes it does. I use it to sync between my ibook and server when I leave the house, though i'm pretty sure it would work just as well between two macs.

Zeniq,
Thinks a lot for this app. This is exactly what I was searching for. I've used this program before on my Windows machines and I actually paid for it and they didn't offer mac support at the time. This is why I just over looked it before when you mentioned it. I've got all my Macs setup to use it now, along with my VM Windows on all my Macs syncing also.
I even set it up to sync my safari bookmarks and my iCal data files, so that was 2 things down that I wanted to get synced across all my macs. The next thing to do is get my Back Up HD working correctly, but that's another ticket.
