Can you please explain to me how to use MAC The Ripper, I have a dvd burner on my mac, but it won't burn copyrighted dvds. Does mac the ripper, let you burn copyrighted and encrypted dvds, and do i need to use the roxio popcorn dvd software (i think that is the name) with it,or can it be used alone with the regular idvd program? Get back to me soon.

Thank you,
Dominique

Dominique,
MTR allows to extract a whole -or part of DVD- with eliminating encryption stuff.
MTR will create a VIDEO_TS folder containing the derypted DVD

Toast 6 is able to burnt this VIDEO_TS

If you do not have Toast, DVDImager is a freeware which allows you to create a burnable image of the DVD; then, use DiskUtility or Finder to burn this image

However, this solution will only works if the VIDEO_TS you want to burned is less than the 4.7G limit size of a blank DVD-R

PopCorn is a commercial tool that can rip a DVD or a part of it -like MTR- and directly burns it on a DVD -like DVDImager+Finder's burning-.
The advantage of Popcorn is that this tool is able to compress the video (with a very downgrade in the quality) to fit within the 4.7G
However, Popcorn cannot deal with encrypted commerial DVDs.

My point of view: Popcorn -less than 70$- is an amazing all-in-one-do-not-worry tool for ripping DVDs. I use it nearly everyday to rip DVDs.
If the DVD you want to rip is encrypted -Pocorn will prompts the message-, you'll need to use first MTR to get rid of the protection

http://www.ripdifferent.com/
is an excellent site to have a general overview of all the solutions to rip a DVD on Mac

Remark: some commercial DVDs are protected with the so-called ARCos protection system. In most of the cases, MTR is not able to clean the protection.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask more details if you want to start with ripping stuff

Last thing Dominique,

I do not use iDVD, so I do not know if this tool can replace more elangtly the burning process -either manual, either Toast-I spoke about.

Regards
Phil
