I am not able to print QuarkXpress 6.5 files which contain tiff or jpeg

files

from my Mac (running OS 10.3.9).

The error message I get in my print spooler is -536854447: Unable to send

print

file to printer (cancelled 0). Is there anything I can do to rectify this

problem?

Howdy! Need more info…

What printer do you have? Have you recently upgraded? Do you have any extensions on in Quark? Using Suitcase or some other font utility?

For the images, jpgs are rgb and can sometimes corrupt print spooling, and the same with rgb tifs…

Have you recently upgraded your os x?

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Thanks Nathaniel

I haven't upgraded anything recently, I do

use Suitcase 11.0.4 and I have got a load of Quark extensions active, do you

think one of those could cause trouble? It definitely seems to be only when I

have tiffs or jpegs in a document that my problems start.

My work is all print based so all of my tiffs/jpegs are cmyk.

Here's a list of all the Quark extensions I've got active. Any further tips

would be very gratefully received.

Okay.

Never use CMYK jpgs for print. That's bad form. But seriously, jpgs are for screen viewing only, not printing. It has to do with their data compression that makes them good for viewing, but printing exposes the blocky, jagged pixel substitutions that give it good screen res but not print res. Use only tifs or eps files and make sure they are cmyk and 300 dpi.

Then turn off all your extensions in quark (after you convert all your cmyk jpg files to tifs) and then turn them on one by one and see if you can print. I would start by turning off only the extensis suitcase plug in first and trying to print; but I have a feeling your cmyk jpgs are causing your printing errors.

Let me know how it goes.
