What app are you trying to use when you see this?
Can you tell me the actual error message (exactly as you see it on the screen)?
Is this error something new, or been happening for a while?
What else have you tried to troubleshoot this problem?
Are you having other problems with your Mac in general, or is this the only problem you know about?
Let me know what you find out...

It was working fine prior to a power outage. The error is random, doesn't matter what is being accessed. Haven't tried anything to troubleshoot as I am useless with macs.
This seems to be the only error.

Is it always the same error?
Can you give me the exact text of the error?
Try repairing your disk permissions:
Go to your Applications/Utilities folder
Launch the Disk Utility
Select your hard drive from the list on the left, and then click Repair Disk Permissions. Let this complete, and restart your Mac. Immediately hold the Apple-S keys. You should get a text screen scrolling a bunch of text. When that stops - type "/sbin/fsck -yf" (without the quotes), and press enter. This will then show the results of a hard drive test. If it completes by showing ***File System was Modified***, run that same test again, until no problems are found. If you continue to see the same 'repairs' and shows the same problems three times in a row, then you will need to purchase a more capable disk repair software, such as Disk Warrior.
Hopefully that test will pass OK. If so, type "/sbin/mount -uw /" again without the quotes, (be careful of spaces), and press enter. Then type reboot, and press enter. Your Mac will restart, and you should let it boot normally.
Now use your computer, and watch for that same error. Hopefully, that will not return. Keep note of the exact text if you do see the error, and when you see that error, and I will try to help you out with that, also.
Let me know how it goes...
