Try clicking Window -> Activity to see what's going on during slowdowns

It is also possible to completely reset the Mail program..

To reset mail:

Quit Mail

Move com.apple.mail.plist located in (home)/library/preferences to the desktop.

Move (home)/library/Mail to the desktop

Open Mail - it should behave as new.

Jack-I'm a Macosx.com Tech and I am going to help you from this point forward.

Do you know when this started happening? Did you change anything on your computer at this time? Did you add any new programs? Noticed slower internet? Changed email address?

Thank you for your continued patience,

Leonard Slutsky

Thank you Leonard. I took it in today and they said something in the root drive had become corrupted and even their fix-it program could not fix it. I am not sure what happened but we had to start from scratch, off load all the documents etc and reinstall the operating system. As of this evening we have loaded ilife back on and Word etc and all seems to be running smoothly. I thank you for your concern and all of your help. I am glad you are all here and with my limited knowledge I am sure I will be back often to look for help.

Thank you again
