Hi There,

I asked before but thought I would try again. basically the message alert sounds for the RRS feed massages but not for incoming mail to my inbox. Everything is set so that it should sound but no joy. My mac mail is set to sync with my gmail account (I don't have a .mac account) so I don't know if this is effecting anything. Any suggestion?

Best,
Anies

And the preference to play sounds for other mail actions is checked?

Yes... I've tried it with the box checked and un-checked, rebooting and then checking it etc.

Just an experiment... try add/remove a sound and load an external sound. i.e: an mp3 or another .aif file.

Let us know if that works, if not i'll look into it further.
Odd little glitch!

One other option would be to use THUNDERBIRD mail client from Mozilla! It's runs nice and the sounds work for me, as well as i get all my gmail fwd'd to it along with other IMAP and POP accounts. Add the Lightning add-on and you have i-cal for Thunderbird for your events and appointments.

Warmly,

Hi There,

Many thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately no joy. You're right about the *odd little glitch* comment. very strange.

Also... as for thunderbird. It's OK but I'm not too keen on it. Mac mail is just a lot simpler for my needs. Thanks for suggesting it though!

All the best,
Anies

Anies:

Have you updated leopard to the latest version? This is the Combo update!

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...mboupdate.html

Also, here is an alternative to make mail beep for new mail and rss:

1) Open Script Editor (/Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor.app)
2) Type "beep" in the new window. Save as "beep_mail.scpt" to whatever location.
3) In Mail, set up a new rule in the preferences> Rules> add rule . Set the condition to "every message". Set the action to "run applescript". Choose the script you just saved, "beep_mail.scpt" .

That's it.

One more:

1. Install the latest version of Growl (1.1.2)
2. Follow the instructions on this page: http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=15587
3. In the Applications tab in the Growl preference pane, you'll see one called "New Mail Rule"
4. Click on it and select "Configure"
5. Then you'll see the "Play Sound" drop down box. Pick your favorite mail sound.

These are quick fixes if Apple has not yet fixed it in their current updates.

Best,

CaribbeanOS-X
