I have connected my older 21" Radius Color Prescision CRT monitor model HM 4021 to a new (Tiger OS 10.4, etc.) Mac Mini via a BNC cable with a VGA plug to the Apple supplied VGA/DVI doggle. While the monitor has power and should have images on the screen it does not. It is dark as if in sleep mode, but won't wake up. I have been to several local tech shops and including the Apple Store and talked with Apple Tech Support via phone, but nothing they suggest works. The Mini worked fine at the Apple Store when connected to an LCD type monitor. I know the Radius works because it was working fine connected to my old computer a week ago.
I do not wish to purchase a new monitor and hope I won't need to return the Mac Mini. Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated.
I would suggest upgrading the Mac mini to OS X 10.4.2 as a possible help.
You should also try a different DVI-VGA adapter.
Those two are worth a try, but I really think that old monitor is not going to function, probably due to a missing sync signal required to supply the BNC connectors. The 2 adapters that you use to hook up the display probably drops a return signal path that you need, or the DVI-I output is just no longer compatible. Your old computer, and the video adapter you used, would supply that sync signal. I found a support site that shows some info about replacement video cards that support the signal requirements for older monitors, but that won't help you because the video in a Mac mini is not upgradeable.
If you know your Mac mini video works with a different monitor, then you will need to replace yours to use the Mac mini.

Dale, Ok, thanks for trying. The upgrading to 10.4.2 was done yesterday and did not help. I don't think using other adapters connectors will do it. If you are right about the signals being sent and so forth, I will return the Mac Mini as the purpose in getting it was so I could just plug in my old but very good monitor.
