Knowledge Level: I'm New!
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: Mac Performa 6205
RAM: 24meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: System 7.5.5

Description:
We are considering an upgrade from OS 7.5.5 to OS 8.5.

1. What effect will that have on our current Quicken and ClarisWorks applications (since they are not automatically upgraded in OS 8.5)? We've been told there may be software conflicts. If so, what kind and what can we do about it?

2. We have 24 meg RAM. Is that sufficient to tolerate OS 8.5? Do we need more for good operation?

Hi welcome to Nowonder

System 8.5 takes a lot of memory on my computer it shows as using 26 Meg, which really would not work on yours. I have Claris Works 5.0 and run without problems and Quicken SE the new Quicken has conflicts with 8.5 and does the older versions of Claris works (which can be updated). I imagine there will be fixes out soon for the Quicken. I would not recommend installing Sys. 8.5 until you get more ram installed. Best regards sharona@nowonder
