TICKET ARCHIVE -> Mac OS X 10.4.6: Safari "Error Message" problems...

I've been getting error messages, when no errors are taking place.

I've been having problems just recently completing sales transactions on Ebay. I keep getting error messages when trying to send out "2nd Chance Offers" -- these are offers you can send to the runner-up bidder if you have more than one of the item you are selling.

Ebay recently added a feature where you can include a personal message along with the 2nd Chance Offer. I was able to use this feature up until about 10 days ago.

I type in a personal message, then hit send, and get a page giving me an error message that says "Please add a personal message", even though I just DID that -- and it still shows in the message box provided.

We've sent Ebay complaints -- they've said the problem is on our end. Told us to reset Safari (we did), then said we should check our firewall (I did, and it's in place).

I'm wondering if this may have something to do with an automatic software update that i okayed about 10 days ago?

Also, on our "My Ebay" page -- where we can see what we're selling and who we've sold to -- there should be a column for the date the item was sold. This has been missing on my computer for several months now, yet shows up on my business partner's PC...

Anyway, I definitely have no clue has to how to resolve these two issues, and hope someone can provide me some help ASAP. We're losing customers and our reputation very quickly!

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Hi Dan! I'm Riccardo and I'll try to help you out.
Recently Apple has released a java update, and since Safari and ebay pages make intensive use of Java, there might be some incompatibilities with the new version. Safari has some lacks in compatibility with some pages.
I suggest you to use "Firefox" in this period (before Apple releases a Safari update that addresses your problem too). It's a web browser, very similar to Safari, but it is more compatible with newest internet languages. Download it from www.macupdate.com and check if you have the same problem as with Safari (I hope not!!). This is the best "temporary" advice I can give you, especially if you are a seller.
Ah, I also suggest you to warn Apple about the problem you have, by using the function in the Safari menu, after the infos about Safari.
For the date column problem, you should control your view preferences in My Ebay web-page, as you can manage which column show or not.
Let me know if you need additional assistance. Bye!

Thanks so much Ricardo for your speedy reply. Stupid me, I also have Internet Explorer -- I wonder, would that work as well as Firefox? I guess I'll give it a try before downloading anything else.

I'm an artist so definitely only one side of my brain works (and some would argue even that) -- so I'm a little wary of downloading anything, especially after the Java update that may have caused the problem.

But I really appreciate your advice and will let you know if Internet Explorer works or not.

Thanks

Dan

Hi again,

I didn't work with Internet Explorer either. I haven't downloaded Firefox yet, as I have one more question first:

My business partner who lives 30 miles away and uses a PC is also getting the same ridiculous error message when he tries to send out a 2nd chance offer.

Does this mean the problem is on Ebay's end -- and has nothing to do with our computers? In other words, is it something wrong with the Ebay site?

THANK YOU!

Dan

Hey, if the problem is "multi-platform", is more than likely that ebay has some problems on its end. Contact Ebay with their support form and tell them that you have the same problem with mac and pc. I also had some problems with Ebay interface, and when the support guys see that there are more warnings from customers about a particular problems, they usually fix it shortly.

Thanks Ricardo. I just sent them my 4th email regarding the situation and told them that my business partner is also experiencing the problem. He even got a message that said "2nd Chance Offers Currently Unavailable", but when he refreshed the page, they were suddenly back -- yet he STILL couldn't send out the offer.

Thanks again -- I really appreciate it!

Hello again,

I still haven't heard back from Ebay (#@**#*!!), but have a new question.

They suggested I turn on FireVault at one point, which I did, but now everytime I boot up, I have to type in my password.

I turned off FireVault, thinking that would eliminate the need to type in a password, but it still shows up.

How do I correct this so that I can just boot up without typing in a password?

Thanks in advance!

Hey! To eliminate the password on login, open the account preference pane, then click on the lock, enter your password, click "login options" and activate the automatic login for your account. Now you should be able to boot without being requested for the password.
