Sure. You can run this as an Upgrade, however I recommend choosing Archive & Install from the installation Options pane instead. I also recommend considering a memory upgrade, as your iMac isn't especially fast by Leopard's standards and more RAM will make it happier, snappier.

Would you suggest getting a Mac Mini and use it with my current Imac? What are the possible disadvantages of doing this?

I don't understand the connections you are making between upgrading your current iMac and buying a second computer. Please elaborate. What all do you do with your computer now? What do you envision doing new in the next one to two years?

I am fearful of dumping money into an old computer in fear that it will soon give out therefore was wondering if a better option would be the mini mac. I love my Imac -the one with the half domed base!!!!! The only reason I want to upgrade is because the new Ipods won't work with my current operating system.

That exactly is not necessarily a good reason to upgrade, but the fact that your iMac doesn't have USB 2.0 is a somewhat better reason. A new iPod would work; just probably wouldn't charge and sync at the same time and data transfer in general would be quite slow.

If you have a display handy or can spend a couple hundred on one (just saw a 19" Samsung 906BW on Buy.com for $200), a Mac mini is a good investment. Hopefully you would also make use of other features and applications that run poorly on your iMac.

If this upgrade plan becomes reality, I hope you find a good new home for your old iMac.
